Sorry fans of ‘Game of Thrones,’ this article is not about George R.R. Martin finally finishing and releasing ‘The Winds of Winter,’ even though he has been working on it for close to 6 years now. As a book fan myself and an avid reader I feel your pain. Instead, the news is about a new collaborative project that Amazon just announced titled ‘Book of Swords’ that you can pre-order, which apparently George R.R. Martin took time out of his busy writing schedule (typical) to write a short story for. Here’s the description of the book on Amazon:
“Fifteen original tales celebrating fantasy’s golden age of sword and sorcery, including a new story from George R. R. Martin set in the world of A Game of Thrones!”
On the plus side though, the story that Martin wrote for the book is set within the world of ‘Game of Thrones,’ so it is original content that we can read, so at least that is something. But it is frustrating that he can take breaks to write for things like this when he knows fans worldwide are anxiously awaiting the next book in the series, especially when the TV show is now jumping so far ahead. And I’m sure even though this short story will take place in the world of ‘Game of Thrones,’ it will not be anything earth-shattering story-wise, so it is not like it is something we are going to feel is really all that essential to the main plot of ‘A Song of Ice and Fire.’ Still, I suppose that any new content is better than nothing, but man, it is hard to be a book-reading fan of ‘Game of Thrones.’
