assassins-creed

Short of a box office failure we’ve already known that ‘Assassin’s Creed‘ would get a sequel and that some execs only thought of the films as an advertisement for the ongoing franchise and now Michael Fassbender has stated that this is a planned trilogy of films. I’m not quite sure why one would find that Hollywood wants to make a series out of a film that is based on an ongoing video game series but now we know that the studio has at least three in mind.

This came out in a recent interview where Fassbender stated:

“This is the sort of origin of his story. We have an idea of where he’s going to go over the next two films. We kind of did a three-film arc. We’ll wait and see how people respond to this, but for sure, we have an idea of where he’s going to go next.”

Video game adaptations tend to flop at the box office. That being said, ‘Warcraft’ did well enough overseas to warrant a sequel to be thrown into development so it isn’t unheard of. However, the budget on this one appears to have been in the range of $130-200 million so we know that this weekend is going to have to do particularly well for a chance of Fassbender to return not just once but two more times as this assassin. While the film looks good and early responses have been positive, it will be going up against the second weekend of the highly successful ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story‘ which has not only done well but word of mouth will probably drive more eyes to see it on the big screen over the coming week.

Are you looking forward to ‘Assassin’s Creed’? Do you think that it will be able to pull in the numbers needed for another film to be greenlit? Share your thoughts below!

Synopsis:

Assassin’s Creed follows a character by the name of Callum Lynch who, through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, is able to experience the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Knights Templar organization in the present day.

‘Assassin’s Creed’ will be sneaking into theaters just in time for Christmas on December 21st, 2016.
