All has been quiet for news on Josh Boone’s ‘New Mutants‘ though a variety of other rumored details have popped up and a new animatic has revealed a classic villain will be included in the film. At this time, everything here is just a rumor and even the animatic might not make it to the big screen but chances are the villain here (one that fans of the comic will recognize) makes us think that at least that rumor may be true.
Obviously, potential spoilers below so tread carefully!
So first up is this really neat 2-minute animatic which shows Magik, Wolfsbane, and Cannonball all fighting Demon Bear who will be at least a major villain if not the central one. Oh, and Lockheed is in the film! Generally, this dragon is a close friend of Kitty Pryde so it will be interesting if she is here or if we’ll just see the dragon hanging out with someone else in this iteration.
You can check it out here:
Demon Bear first popped up in ‘New Mutants’ #3 and draws power from negative human emotions which allow the demonic entity to have super strength, teleport, transform, and corrupt souls.
With Magik and Demon Bear involved it looks like the director is actually planning to make this more of a horror film “in the style of Stephen King by way of John Hughes.” In it, we’ll be seeing Dani Moonstar a.k.a. Mirage, Illyana Rasputin a.k.a. Magik, Samuel Guthrie a.k.a. Cannonball, Roberto da Costa a.k.a. Sunspot, and Rahne Sinclair a.k.a. Wolfsbane. Currently, the development team is eyeing Maisie Williams (‘Game of Thrones’) for Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy (‘The Witch’) for Magik, and Nat Wolff (‘The Fault in Our Stars’) as Cannonball. Of course, none of this is official at this time so we couldn’t tell you if any offers have been made or accepted.
