Only a month ago we learned that Shane Black’s ‘The Predator‘ was casting Benicio Del Toro in the lead role, and now, all too soon it seems, things have changed. The well very known actor would have brought a lot of notoriety to the reboot, but it seems scheduling has been a problem for the studio, as they have already pushed production back till February for Del Toro, and now that his other movies have shifted around, it seems Shane Black and 20th Century Fox just cannot accommodate him for ‘The Predator’ reboot. And while fans of Del Toro will surely be disappointed as the lost opportunity, they need not fret, for 20th Century Fox already has another amazing actor in mind, even if he is not as well known just yet.
They have now cast Boyd Holbrook of ‘Narcos’ fame in the lead role of ‘The Predator,’ which makes this the fourth film 20th Century Fox has recently cast the man in, the first three being ‘Gone Girl,’ ‘Morgan,’ and the recently announced villainous role in ‘Logan,’ which was reported earlier this week. The studio has admitted that while Holbrook may not have the star power Del Toro had, they plan “on beefing up the supporting cast,” and as anyone who has seen ‘Narcos’ can attest, Holbrook will soon enough be a big enough star that it will not be too much of an issue.
Are you disappointed to see Del Toro leave the film? Do you (like me) like Shane Black’s work enough that it does not really matter who is starring, as long as he keeps making the kind of films he always has? Feel free to share your opinions on the matter in the comments below!
