With the cliffhanger finale of who died at the end of Negan’s bat Lucille, it seems like Executive Producer Greg Nicotero may have just unintentionally confirmed one of the biggest rumors of what is to come in the seventh season of ‘The Walking Dead. While he doesn’t spell out exactly who dies, his words seem to have dropped a major spoiler as what will happen when the show starts back up. The network, cast, and crew have all made a huge deal on keeping the upcoming death a secret so this seems like a pretty big slip on Nicotero’s part. With the season premiere in late October, we still have quite some time until the big secret is revealed but this singular comment could change everything.

This is your last chance to turn back before we go into it!

So, the spoiler here isn’t on who lives or who dies. No, the potential spoiler is actually how many die. We’ve heard a rumor grumbling for a while that there would be two deaths at Negan’s hands when the seventh season premieres and when the cliffhanger was brought up in a recent interview Nicotero had this to say:

“If we would have shown the deaths, then they wouldn’t have felt our characters in Season 7 the way they need to.”

The key takeaway there is deaths, as in plural. It doesn’t look like just one of Rick’s crew is going to be brutally killed here as was the case in the comics but more likely two. By now almost everyone knows that Glenn died in the comics, and with the spoiler warning above I don’t mind typing that here, so if they went that route it would be easy to see Maggie reacting to his death and also going down.

Not a fan of killing women, it would almost seem to be out of character for Negan so I actually wonder if Abraham could be on the list. He’s already dead by this point in the comics and even though Michael Cudlitz thinks that a world where both Abraham and Negan exist could be an interesting one, the way they focussed on him recently is very in line with how they focus on characters before they are killed. My guess would be him for a lead and one of the characters from Alexandria who haven’t quite gelled with the audiences as of yet.

‘The Walking Dead’ is set to infect AMC for a 7th season on Sunday, October 23 at 9 p.m. ET.
