the-flash

The CW has certainly been busy during their time at the recent Television Critics Association Press Tour, especially when it comes to their slate of shows based on the characters of DC Comics. Major announcements have been made regarding ‘Supergirl’, ‘Arrow’, and ‘Legends of Tomorrow’, but now it’s time for an update from the Fastest Man Alive.

First, no talk regarding ‘The Flash’ could be complete without mentioning Flashpoint, the upcoming storyline that spins out of the events of the season two finale that saw Barry Allen saving his mother and altering the timeline. Comic Book Movie reports that CW President Mark Pedowitz revealed that Barry’s journey through this alternate timeline is only set to last for “a couple of episodes before it comes back in [with the original timeline]”. While that may not sound like a whole lot, plenty can happen in just a couple of episodes that could change the Scarlet Speedster forever.

The Flash Gorilla Grodd
Grodd lives!

And we’re not talking purely on the emotional side of things either because there are some fierce villains out there gunning for the hero of Central City. Collider tells us that executive producers Andrew Kreisberg and Greg Berlanti announced a number of villains appearing in the upcoming season, starting with the return of Gorilla Grodd. When we last saw him, the gang at Star Labs sent him packing to Earth-2 to live with other scientific experiment gorillas like himself. But in season three, Grodd will make a comeback in a two-part arc will take our heroes to Gorilla City.

In addition to the gorilla with a God complex, the gang will have their hands full with two other big bads this season. During the panel, the EPS shared that Dr. Alchemy, and the speedster known as Savitar will also factor into the next chapter of the story. While it wasn’t clear whether they would be introduced in the Flashpoint timeline or even if they’d be working together, Keiynan Lonsdale as Kid Flash has been spotted on set with Todd Lasance from ‘The Vampire Diaries’ and ‘Spartacus’ as he sports a red and black Flash-like suit with a gnarlier mask. Though that may not confirm anything, it’s a pretty strong indication that at least Savitar will be popping up during Flashpoint.

Finally, the network disclosed that classic Flash villain Mirror Master is set to make the crossover from the page to the screen for the fourth episode of season three. Created by John Broome and Carmine Infantino in 1959, Sam Scudder and his malignant mirrors will be brought into the present day by ‘Friday Night Lights’ and ‘American Horror Story: Coven’ actor Grey Damon. And despite teaming up with other rogues like Heat Wave, Captain Cold, The Trickster, Golden Glider, and more throughout the history of DC Comics, it appears that Mirror Master will be working alone in his first outing on The CW. Here’s the official character description courtesy of Comic Book Resources

“One of the Flash’s most infamous Rogues, Sam Scudder — aka Mirror Master — is a smooth criminal with a huge ego. Upon discovering he now has the power to travel through any reflective surface, Scudder embarks on a massive crime spree to prove himself the greatest thief that Central City has ever seen.”
