tyrion game of thrones

Winter is finally upon us! I’ve been waiting for some of my favorite characters to come together since episode one. Others have been separated for hundreds of miles and dozens of episodes, long past due for a reunion. The end of Season Six suggested that, finally, the scenes we are jonesing for will be realized. Here are my most anticipated meet-ups for the future of ‘GoT’ in no particular order:

Top 5 Most Anticipated Game of Thrones Reunions

1. Tyrion and Cersei Lannister

These two left under horrible terms with Cersei blaming Tyrion for the death on her son and king. All evidences points to a reunion placing them of opposing sides of the next great battle for the Iron Throne. The look on Cersei’s face when she sees what Tyrion’s been up to, dragons and all, should be priceless. Jamie may be in the middle of the world’s worst sibling rivalry.

2. Arya and Sansa Stark

Last season we saw Sansa get back to Jon Snow. This was great and all, but if Frozen taught us anything it’s the power of sisterly love. These two may bring us the happiest Game of Thrones moment thus far, reminding us that good guys (and girls) win occasionally.

3. Petyr ‘Littlefinger’ Baelish and Lord Varys

I miss these two trying to out scheme one another. Little finger and Lord Varys may be in more direct opposition than ever with armies that could very well go to war, but I suspect they’ll still have a chance to catch up and compare notes before the blood and havoc.

4. Jorah Mormont and Daenerys Targaryen

The original Mother of Dragons fanboy has been with her since the beginning and left with more love than ever. She seemed to be coming around to him too. I don’t expect them to settle down with a white picketed drawbridge or anything, but they gotta at least meet up again, right? Even if Mormont is all Greyscally.

5. Bran Stark and Jaime Lannister

This reunion is only meaningful because it brings us full circle. The inciting event to the Lannister/Stark war that drove the first few seasons of the show was Jaime pushing Bran out a window. Remember that? I’d like to see a resolution there. Maybe coming face to face with Jamie with jog Bran’s memory. Maybe a vision of the three-eyed crow will remind Bran of what was. Granted, Bran remembering that Jamie and Cersei had sex and tried to murder him wouldn’t change anything. The damage between the families is down and the royal incest is common knowledge, but it would put a nice bow on it.

Top 5 Most Anticipated Game of Thrones Introductions

1. Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow

We all want the two perceived heroes of the show to get along and they probably will. Hell, they’re family. They might not realize their shared heritage unless they meet up with Bran. If that happens, it could well be after a romantic relationship blooms (or at least a marriage of families to gain support for the throne.)

2. Daenerys Targaryen and Cersei Lannister

On the other hand, the two most powerful characters in this male-run universe are two women who will almost certainly be at odds. Cersei is everything the Mother of Dragons hates and that’s beside the fact that she is currently sitting on her sought after chair. By the time the white walkers hit King’s Landing, I wouldn’t be surprised if one of these ladies were dead at the other’s hands. (Smart money’s on Daenerys.)

3. A Dragon and A White Walker

Speaking of white walkers, this stuff called dragonglass hurts them. I don’t think dragonglass actually comes from dragons per se, but I bet excessive fire breath isn’t healthy for them. The intrigue of Game of Thrones has come primarily from non-magical politics. The climax may just be folks riding on flying lizards killing ice zombies. It seems out of place, but I’m sure as hell watching.

4. Brienne of Tarth and The Mountain

Brienne of Tarth is perhaps the best fighter on the show. She beat the Hound. She could beat his brother the Mountain. The two characters transcend the moral gray area explored on Game of Thrones by most closely representing pure good and pure evil. For this reason, they must meet. If good wins, it would provide a catharsis fans have been waiting for since the fall of House Stark. The North Remembers.

5. Arya Stark and Cersei Lannister

Arya remembers. I like to think Arya’s hit list has Cersei’s name underlined with an exclamation mark. If she doesn’t, it’s only because Arya doesn’t quite understand how cold the new queen has become. Audiences went wild when Walder Frey died at the hands of a girl, but they ain’t seen nothing yet.
