At last night’s massive Marvel/Netflix panel at San Diego Comic-Con, True Believers were treated to a number of previews for the upcoming shows on the popular streaming service set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Among them was our first look at ‘Iron Fist’, the most mystical of all the street level Marvel heroes coming to Netflix. The brief teaser showed us Finn Jones’ Danny Rand for the first time, but it didn’t give much else in terms of details about the show. However, a new interview with Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer teases us a little it more with some interesting tidbits.

While speaking to IGN about the various projects that he’s currently involved in, Joe Quesada dropped some new information about the Living Weapon of K’un L’un and the foes that he will be facing when his series debuts on Netflix presumably sometime next year:

“The cast is amazing. Another show that will be completely different from Luke, Jessica and Daredevil. That’s really our goal. We’re trying to offer four shows, that live in the same universe but offer fans a completely different look. Martial arts will play a huge part in Iron Fist. I would also say that Iron Fist has more villains, in our first season, than any of our other shows. There’s a lot going on. Scott Buck, the showrunner and his writing team have created a fantastic story for us and have wove in some great legends from Marvel present past. We’re still in production so we’re not quite at the point where we’ll begin promoting it but I think fans are going to dig it. “

Looking back, Daredevil had a number of villains to contend with during his first season since he had to face Kingpin, the Russians, the Hand, Leland Owlsley, Madame Gao, and all of their associates. But if Iron Fist has to contend with more than that, we’re surely in for some fast and furious action when you consider the hero’s rogues gallery. We already know that Harold and Ward Meachum will be involved, but all signs point to the Steel Serpent making an appearance as well alongside Wai Ching Ho reprising her role as Gao. Since Peter Shinkoda’s Nobu doesn’t seem to stay dead, he’s also a prime candidate to cross paths with Rand on the streets of New York City. Beyond that, the possibilities are pretty endless since the hero has made many enemies since his creation in the early 1970s.

But with more bad guys waiting for him, does this mean that we’ll see Danny seek out more allies too? The show has already cast Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing and rumors speculate that Shang-Chi will join the party as well, but the Sons of the Tiger, the White Tiger, and even long-time friend Luke Cage are prime candidates to make appearances alongside the young dragon. With production currently ongoing, maybe we’ll find out the answers to these questions sooner rather than later.

Which villains do you think will terrorize Danny Rand in ‘Iron Fist’? Do you think that more heroes will join his fight as well? Share your thoughts and theories in the comments below.
