In a surprising development, it appears that Noomi Rapace has been spied on the Australian set of ‘Alien: Covenant’ and is reported to be shooting for “several weeks.”  Rapace starred in ‘Prometheus’ as the main character, Elizabeth Shaw, and while her character survived the end of the movie, along with the head of David the artificial life form played by Michael Fassbender, up until now, it was believed that the character Shaw would not appear in this movie.  There is no word on the extent of her role in ‘Covenant’ which introduces an entirely new cast of space explorers led by Katherine Waterston.

‘Covenant’ takes place ten years after ‘Prometheus’ and Fassbender’s David is a key player, but being an artificial humanoid, it makes sense that he hasn’t aged much.  It remains to be seen if Rapace’s Shaw will be shown in flashbacks or if there will be another explanation for her appearance.

‘Covenant’ is directed by Ridley Scott who also directed ‘Prometheus’ and the original ‘Alien’ back in 1979.  The new movie is the first of three that will bridge ‘Prometheus’ and ‘Alien’.

Scott originally planned a more direct sequel to ‘Prometheus’ which would have focused on Shaw and David in their search for the homeworld of the Engineers.  ‘Covenant’, instead, is believed to shift the focus back to the classic xenomorph aliens.

Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created in ALIEN with ALIEN: COVENANT, the second chapter in a prequel trilogy that began with PROMETHEUS — and connects directly to Scott’s 1979 seminal work of science fiction. Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.

Are you intrigued that Elizabeth Shaw is returning?  What role do you think she will play in the new film?

‘Alien: Covenant’ directed by Ridley Scott, starring katherine Waterston, Michael Fassbender, Billy Crudup, Jussie Smollet, Danny McBride, Demián Bichir, Callie Hernandez, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, Benjamin Rigby and Alexander England arrives in theaters August 4, 2017.
