Woah! This is unexpected! While the core cast of ‘Saban’s Power Rangers’ consists of unknowns, the big screen adaptation of the low budget kids’ series is padding things out a bit with recognizable adult stars. First, of course, there is Elizabeth Banks, star of ‘The Hunger Games’ and ‘Pitch Perfect’ franchises among many other hits. Now comes word that, of all people, ‘Breaking Bad’ star Bryan Cranston has signed on to play Zordon, the Rangers’ time warp-trapped mentor.
The announcement came from Cranston himself via Twitter:
Excited to play #Zordon in the #PowerRangersMovie! T or F: #BlueRanger Billy Cranston was named after what actor? https://t.co/d3ltjpcDKb

What you may not know is that Cranston’s early acting career began on… ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’! The future Walter White provided the voices for some of the rubber suited villains that battled the heroes in the first iteration of the show. His parts included Twin Man and Snizzard and he was so liked by the creators that the original Blue Ranger, played by David Yost, was named Billy Cranston in his honor!
Reportedly, Zordon will be the first Red Ranger and will lead a prehistoric version of the team against Rita before both go into suspended animation to be revived in the present.

Are you ready to morph?
Directed by Dean Israelite, ‘Saban’s Power Rangers’ stars Dacre Montgomery as Jason the Red Ranger, R.J. Cyler as Billy the Blue Ranger, Naomi Scott as Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Becky G as Trini the Yellow Ranger, Ludi Lin as Zack the Black Ranger with Elizabeth Banks as Rita Repulsa and Bryan Cranston as Zordon. The film is slated for release on March 24, 2017.
