On ‘The Walking Dead’, Norman Reedus‘ character Daryl Dixon is rarely very far from his trusty motorcycle and it turns out that Reedus is an enthusiast in real life.  Now AMC is giving him a new reality series ‘Ride With Norman Reedus’ on which he will travel the country exploring bike culture and speaking to fellow collectors, mechanics, and craftsmen.

So it should come as no surprise that Reedus would be “down” with playing a certain Marvel superhero, Ghost Rider.  When asked about his interest, he enthusiastically replied:

“Hell yeah.  It would be a blast. Do I get a skull face that’s on fire and all that stuff? F— yeah. I’m down.”

Nicholas Cage portrayed the spectral hero in two films from Columbia Pictures, ‘Ghost Rider’ in 2007 and the sequel ‘Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengance’ 2012.  Neither movie was particularly well-liked, nor were they hits.  (Although the first fared better at the box office than the second.)

The rights to the character have since reverted to Marvel, but they have yet to announce any plans to revisit the character, despite rumors that he might get a Netflix series.  Ghost Rider’s gritty style would make him a good fit for the Netflix shows, which focus on the darker, more street-level side of the Marvel Universe.  However, unlike lead heroes like ‘Daredevil’ and ‘Luke Cage’, Ghost Rider with his flaming skull and motorcycle would require a much higher special effects budget, which may make it cost-prohibitive.

There’s always the possibility of a new movie, but last year, 20th Century Fox attempted to revive another super hero movie series which had initially met with lackluster response from the public, ‘Fantastic Four’ and the new version flopped, performing worse than the two previous installments.  Considering the lack of interest film goers had for Nicholas Cage’s films, it’s unclear if there would be enough interest in a new one.

Would you like to see Reedus as ‘Ghost Rider’?  If so, would you prefer an ongoing series or a movie?
