In ‘Thor: Ragnarok‘ we know that Jeff Goldblum (‘Independence Day: Resurgence‘,’Jurassic Park‘) will be playing the villain Grandmaster and now he’s opening up a little about his take on the role. It is always interesting to see which actors take on these parts as longstanding comic book characters blind and which really dig in on who they’ll be playing. Goldblum not only has researched the character but has done so to a point of really understanding what makes him tick. During a recent interview with Empire, Goldblum revealed what he did to prepare for the role and what working with director Taika Waititi was like:

“[Grandmaster is] a hedonist, a pleasure-seeker. He’s an enjoyer of life and tastes and smells. I thought, ‘I can do that, I’ll bet!’ I’m working on my part every day. I’m a sponge, researching. [Waititi] is encouraging me to improvise and make it my own, and that’s what I’m trying to do. I hope he doesn’t throw me out on the first day!”

Goldblum not only seems excited about the role though but who he’ll be working with as well as the location!

“Not only Chris Hemsworth, Cate Blanchett, Anthony Hopkins… jeez, that’s gonna be fun. I’ve never been to Australia except to do these little publicity things.”

With strong rumors of Planet Hulk elements being included in ‘Thor: Ragnarok,’ it would almost make sense for Grandmaster to be behind the gladiatorial fights that Thor and Hulk might be drawn into during the course of the film. Are you looking forward to seeing Goldblum involved in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe? Do you think that this will be a one-shot or will he return for ‘The Avengers: Infinity War’? ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ starring Chris Hemsworth, Karl Urban, Jeff Goldblum, Cate Blanchard, Tessa Thompson, Jamie Alexander, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Anthony Hopkins, and Mark Ruffalo strikes theaters on November 3, 2017.
