suicide-squad

By this point we’ve all heard of the random gifts that Jared Leto gave to his fellow cast members of DC’s upcoming ‘Suicide Squad‘ and the actor has opened up a bit on why he was giving them. From live rats to a dead pig to countless other maliciously fun gifts we all knew that Leto wanted to be in character for the part. So why exactly did he decide that going a little crazy on set would help him go crazy on camera?

Well that one is easy and pretty much what everyone was thinking all along:

“I did a lot of things to create a dynamic to create an element of surprise, a spontaneity and to really break down any kind of walls that may be there. The Joker is somebody who doesn’t really respect things like personal space or boundaries.”

It was all about not just staying in character but becoming the character so when the rest of the cast interacted with him it wasn’t Leto or an Oscar winner but The Joker. He wanted them to live and breathe The Joker in his presence and come this Fall we’ll see if it helped elevate his performance to become as iconic in our minds as the late Heath Ledger was able to pull off.

I can’t help but wonder if he’ll be performing the same stunts assuming he joins the cast of the first stand alone ‘Batman‘ movie?
