During Sony’s PlayStation Experience event, Naughty Dog revealed 14 minutes of first-time gameplay footage of the upcoming ‘Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End’.

The new footage starts off with protagonist Nathan Drake standing on a cliff overlooking a view of a stormy sea. He then promptly asks “Where the hell are you?” before the player controlling him walks him into a nearby cave.

For a good chunk of the video, we get a glimpse of the classic ‘Uncharted’ gameplay filled with platforming and climbing enacted with the next generation graphical power of the PS4.

Combat kicks in roughly halfway through the gameplay demonstration. From the looks of it, the core ‘Uncharted’ cover and shoot gunplay seems to stay true. However, new this time around is the incorporation of stealth mechanics. For example, Drake can now run away from a firefight and take cover in foliage in order to hide from enemies and take them out silently. Enemy AI looks to be more dynamic in response to this though, seeing as guards will become suspicious if their teammates disappear or do not respond.

Drake will also have access to new new tools like a rope and grapple hook that he can use to swing around the environment, and a rock climbing piton hook which aids him during climbs on walls that do not have many handholds.

Lastly, a new detail that is revealed at the end of the footage is a brand new character who is introduced as Nathan Drake’s older brother. He states that the two have some kind of treasure to find before walking off prompting Drake to follow.

Announced during this past E3 2014, ‘Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End’ has not seen much in the way of actual gameplay footage up until now. It stars Drake as he goes on a globe-trotting adventure to uncover a conspiracy behind a fabled pirate treasure. According to Naughty Dog in a blog post, the plot of the game is set to be “his greatest adventure yet and will test his physical limits, his resolve, and ultimately what he’s willing to sacrifice to save the ones he loves.

‘Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End’ has not scheduled release date but will release as an exclusive title sometime next year for the PS4.
