With ‘The Force Awakens’ becoming the third highest grossing film in history behind ‘Titanic’ and ‘Avatar’, it seems like nothing can derail the ‘Star Wars’ train that is charging into theaters every year for the foreseeable future. And now that the release date for Rian Johnson’s ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ has officially moved from May 2017 to December 15, 2017, it looks like even the legendary Steven Spielberg is jumping out of the way in hopes of not getting steamrollered.

According to Variety, the iconic filmmaker’s latest film ‘Ready Player One’ will push back it’s release date to March 30, 2018. Originally slated for December 15, 2017, the movie based on Ernest Cline’s acclaimed nostalgia-filled sci-fi adventure has vacated that spot to give a galaxy far, far away some space. After all, they definitely don’t want to end up like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler’s ‘Sisters’, which went up against J.J. Abrams’ highly anticipated blockbuster during this past holiday season and didn’t stand a chance against the intergalactic juggernaut.

But don’t think that Warner Bros. is just running scared from Kylo Ren and the First Order. This move is said to allow the pop culture scavenger hunt starring Ben Mendelssohn and Olivia Cooke to take advantage of an opportunistic time frame at movie theaters across the country. Aside from a new project from Laika Studios, there’s no other competition during the 2018 Easter holiday right now. It also falls between the end of the Winter Olympics and the beginning of the World Cup, two events that will certainly affect the box office of any movie debuting around that time.

Though Spielberg is certainly a force to be reckoned with at the box office, this is probably the best move ‘Ready Player One’ could take. But what do you think about the move? Are you disappointed that you have to wait even longer for this adaptation? Sound off in the comments.
