Adam-Lambert

Just when you thought FOX’s ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ live presentation, starring Laverne Cox as Frank N. Fürter couldn’t get any more glam, guy-liner pioneer Adam Lambert had been added to the cast.  Lambert was previously considered for the role of Frank N. Fürter, and with his 70s throwback vocal stylings, he probably would have been excellent in the role.  But with the exquisite Cox in that role, Lambert has been slotted into the next best part for him, Eddie, the role played in the original movie by theatrical rocker Meatloaf.

Lambert expressed:

“I grew up watching Rocky Horror, but could never imagine that I would be part of this new vision. Rocky Horror always made me feel like it was okay to celebrate my weirdness. Hallelujah, bless my soul! I love that old time rock-n-roll!”

For Lambert, this is something of a homecoming.  The pop singer gained fame as one of the finalists on the network’s ‘American Idol’ and later earned a recurring role as the glam rocker Star Child on the same network’s ‘Glee’.  Lambert did not win ‘Idol’ but quickly upstaged the milquetoast actual winner, the guitar strumming Kris Allen.  Not only did Lambert’s debut album outsell Allen’s, but he landed the cover of ‘Rolling Stone’ when he “came out” after the contest was over.  He has since scored a Top Ten hit with “Whataya Want From Me” (written by Pink) which garnered him a Grammy nomination and toured with Queen, replacing the late Freddie Mercury.  His latest single “Ghost Town” was a huge club hit.

Eddie is described as:

“The rock-n-roll loving, ex-delivery boy, who emerges at Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s on a motorcycle and crashes the party.”

Lambert joins Cox, Victoria Justice as Janet, Ryan McCartan as Brad, Reeve Carney as Riff-Raff, Staz Nair as Rocky.  The rest of the cast has yet to be announced.  The live presentation will be directed, executive produced and choreographed by ‘High School Musical’ mastermind Kenny Ortega.  Gail Berman and Lou Adler, who produced the original film are also attached as producers.

What do you think?  Is the glam Adam Lambert a good choice to play Eddie?
