It’s not surprising that Jena Malone’s character Johanna Mason is a former victor of ‘The Hunger Games’, but is there one thing that Johanna just wasn’t tough enough to do?  In a manner of speaking.  Malone appeared on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ to discuss the upcoming fourth and final ‘Hunger Games’ movie, ‘Mockingjay Part 2’, and she revealed that she needed a stunt double… to shave her head.

Her character Johanna had to have a shaved head in the film, but rather than actually take the clippers to her locks, the look was achieved by wearing a bald cap with tracking markers which allowed her shorn scalp to be added in with CGI!  For additional scenes, Malone explained, she had a “stunt head”.

“There was a woman that also had a bald head that was brought in to kind of also film some of my sequences…I had a stunt head, which was incredible…I think she already had a shaved head, I’m hoping.”

Don’t jump to the conclusion that vanity prevented the actress from making the sacrifice,  as she seems like she would have been up for it.  But the nature of movie making may have prevented it.  Unlike Karen Gillan who went bald for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy‘, Malone’s character had to appear both bald and with hair and since movie scenes are filmed out of order, the choice was made to digitally shave render her bald head instead of shaving her real head and making her wear a fake-looking wig, the way Kate Mara did in certain scenes in ‘Fantastic Four’.

At any rate, Malone did undergo a follicle transformation for her next big movie, ‘Batman V Superman’ in which she will play… a mystery role.  A mystery role with red hair, so that narrows things down a bit.

At any rate, check out her interview with Jimmy Kimmel below:

With the nation of Panem in a full scale war, Katniss confronts President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in the final showdown. Teamed with a group of her closest friends – including Gale (Liam Hemsworth), Finnick (Sam Claflin), and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) – Katniss goes off on a mission with the unit from District 13 as they risk their lives to stage an assassination attempt on President Snow who has become increasingly obsessed with destroying her.  The mortal traps, enemies, and moral choices that await Katniss will challenge her more than any arena she faced in The Hunger Games.

Directed by Francis Lawrence, ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2′ stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Willow Shields, Sam Claflin, Jena Malone, Stanley Tucci and Donald Sutherland reprising their original roles from ‘The Hunger Games’ and ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.’  The film will hit theaters on November 20th.
