When ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ hits theaters next year, it will introduce the world to a number of heroes that will inhabit the DC Cinematic Universe in addition to the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight. Among those Justice Leaguers will be the king of the seven seas, Aquaman. Although, we’ll definitely be seeing a variation on the classic character as Jason Momoa’s take is said to be very different than the old school ‘Super Friends’ version that often ends up as the butt of many jokes. But the actor recently shared that there will be some allusions to the Aquaman that we’ve come to know over the years.
While speaking to The Robot’s Voice at the Joshua Tree Film Festival, Momoa revealed that his costume in Zack Snyder’s upcoming film (and in James Wan’s 2018 solo film) would still pay homage to several aspects of previous iterations of Aquaman. The actor specifically noted that bits of the trademark color scheme will be present, but the character itself will be a darker than we’re used to (which shouldn’t be too much of a surprise since it’s very much in line with what WB and DC have been doing with these films):
“Well, there might be some bit of orange and green. A bit of respect for prior work, but I think he is meaner now and upset — look at what has been done to our oceans. That’s his world that has been polluted.”
Previously, we got a sneak peek at a heavily tattooed Momoa sporting some armor and wielding a trident, but that picture presumably wasn’t really colored in a way that will reflect Aquaman’s true appearance. As ‘Dawn of Justice’ draws closer, maybe we’ll get a better look at the green and orange that the actor mentions. Until then, share your thoughts on his portrayal of Aquaman in the comments below.
