Before we hear the news that ‘The Matrix‘ is being rebooted starring another white actor, let’s take a moment to delve back into the original trilogy whether you feel like it or not.
Even though our collective enthusiasm is probably focused on other franchises, the YouTube channel The Film Theorists created a video arguing the case that Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) is actually “The One” and not Neo (Keanu Reeves).
The arguments are pretty valid, using evidence from a few scenes from ‘The Matrix Reloaded’ and ‘The Matrix Revolutions’ that you probably didn’t pay much attention to because you were thinking, “This scene is long and makes no sense. How long until ‘Kill Bill: Vol. 2’ comes out?”
However, despite many a snarky attitude regarding ‘The Matrix’ sequels (much of which is included in the video), there’s no denying that the trilogy made a significant impact. Obviously it revolutionized special effects and science fiction cinema, but it also triggered countless online discussions where people philosophize about machines becoming our god or what simulacra means or how Lewis Carroll knew we were living in a Matrix.
Take a look at the video below and, if you’re interested, prepare to have your mind blown.
