During a recent interview to promote ‘Hand of God’ things quickly went to ‘Hellboy 3‘ and Ron Perlman was happy to reveal more details about what we might see in the film. Assuming the movie ever gets greenlit, this end cap to the series will deliver us not only the Apocalypse but apparently Hellboy and Liz’s children as well! Yes, I said children as in they’d be having twins and not just one kiddo to call their own.

While Perlman didn’t reveal too much on the characters he did say that Guillermo del Toro had a couple key personality traits for the twins already in mind as:

“I’ll tell you this. The two twins: one would look like the mum and one would look like the dad. And one of them was going to be completely fucking corrupt, the other one angelic. Which one was which? Only Guillermo would make the fucked-up-looking one be the angel. So then that adds to the saga.”

Now this makes me wonder if Hellboy being the Beast of the Apocalypse will be his idea or will in fact be influenced by either his evil child or from trying to save his angelic one. Who knows if we’ll ever find out these answers but I still hope that the movie could see the light of day.

The problem on this last film still not being made boils down to money and no studio willing to pony up the much needed cash. Sadly Dark Horse isn’t quite Marvel but Perlman hopes someone will see that the films not only need to come to a close with a third film but also that it would be financially viable.

“I could actually see somebody like [Amazon CEO] Jeff [Bezos] going, ‘You guys need $120m to make Hellboy? I’m down.’ This is the reason I keep touting Hellboy 3 because I think there’s somebody out there that’s going to agree with me, that we need to finish this trilogy. I won’t answer that [who is holding it up], because it’ll make too many people uncomfortable, and I’ve already made people uncomfortable enough.

If you look at the numbers we did, we’re not a blockbuster – we’re not Iron Man, we’re not the Marvel movies, we’re not one of these movies that made half a billion dollars worldwide. That’s a mandate. We don’t have a mandate to do Hellboy 3. All we have is a modest amount of enthusiasm and that’s just not enough in today’s marketplace. That’s not the answer [I was referring to before] but we’ll use that for now – as a placeholder – until the real thing comes along!”

While it probably wouldn’t grab half a billion dollars at the box office, I do think that as with the previous films it would generate a profit. Clearly the fans and press are behind another one being made we just have to have one of the studios see that it would be worth making and chip in.

Are you excited for ‘Hellboy 3’ to get made? Do you think we’ll ever see this series get the ending that it deserves? Share your thoughts below!
