WARNING: ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ SPOILERS AHEAD

Despite the admirable attempts by Disney and Lucasfilm to keep a lid on all information about the latest film in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise until closer to its release date, unfortunately they cannot stop retailers from releasing information attached to their product, in this case, a new ‘Star Wars’ toy line. It seems that ‘Making Star Wars’ has received a number of images from a Facebook user called “The Ultimate Toy Collector” who has somehow already collected the first wave of ‘The Force Awakens’ 6 inch ‘Black Series’ figurines, made in the likeness of characters such as Finn, Kylo Ren and Chewie, as well as a combo pack which includes both Rey and BB-8. Here is where the spoiler comes in, for in the description of the little spherical droid, it states that BB-8 is a “…spherical, loyal Astromech Droid of Resistance pilot Poe Dameron.”

Which is a bombshell only in that in all the released footage we have only ever seen BB-8 following around Rey, as though she were the droid’s owner. Which begs the question, how did she and BB-8 come into contact with one another? We have seen an image of Rey purchasing BB-8 from some kind of scavenger, so many are speculating that BB-8 entering her life might be akin to R2D2 being found by Luke Skywalker in the original film, some kind of fateful meeting that will set Rey on the path to heroism. And all of this would also work well with the rumored opening of the film, wherein a Jakku native finds Luke Skywalker’s old lightsaber, which is somehow a key to an old Sith tomb, and then contacts the Resistance for aid, leading Poe Dameron to Jakku. Only the resistance pilot is followed by the First Order,  so he hides the lightsaber in BB-8, leading Kylo Ren and the stormtroopers with him to set the village ablaze when they cannot find the lightsaber. It’s all just speculation at this point, but with the reveal that BB-8 does belong to Poe, it does lead some credence to the theory.
