After releasing the final trailers and a whole mess of TV spots over the course of the last few weeks, Fox has finally released the first clip from Josh Trank’s reboot of ‘Fantastic Four.’ With only about a week left until the film finally premieres, I assume that this is probably the first of many.
In the clip posted on 20th Century Fox’s YouTube channel earlier this week, we can see the team of Reed Richards, Ben Grimm, Johnny Storm, and Victor Domashev (this world’s version of Victor von Doom) preparing to cross dimensions. Previously, bits of this scene have been seen in trailers and promos, but here we get more of Michael B. Jordan’s Storm being the comic relief. You can check it out below, followed by the film’s official synopsis:
FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.
It’s interesting to note that Kate Mara’s Sue Storm is absent from this scene. My guess is that this brief slice shows the group’s first attempt at interdimensional travel, which probably fails for some reason. That would maybe prompt Sue to tag in on the one that actually works and gives them all their trademark superpowers. Or maybe she’s operating the machinery and upon the group’s return, she’s hit with residual DNA-altering rays. Either way, we’ll find out how it happens next week.
What do you think of the first clip from ‘Fantastic Four’? Where do you suppose Sue Storm is while this is going down? Sound off in the comments.
‘Fantastic Four’ starring Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, Toby Kebbell, Reg E. Cathey, and Tim Blake Nelson hits theaters on August 7, 2015.
