“We’re not going to reboot any of the old favorites, although it was something we all thought about. These are all brand new stories. We hope to scare you in brand new ways.”
So says ‘X-Files‘ creator Chris Carter after the fan speculation that episodes of the rebooted series were going to focus on old plotlines favorited by fans, a theory that became prevalent when fans saw that one of the new episodes was titled ‘Home Again.’ For those not in the know (including yours truly who had to look it up), the original episode ‘Home’ involved the incestuous Peacock family that the characters encountered, whose scare level and fan reaction was massive at the time.
It is good to see the show moving forward and not just retreading old ideas, but I’m sure many fans are hoping that at least some of the older stories will be at least mentioned, as paying homage to the previous seasons seems like a no-brainer. And with the show attempting to keep an audience for its entire new run, especially after 13 years off the air, they definitely need to keep the hardcore fans in mind, as they will be the ones pushing others to watch and keeping interest in the show on the internet.
Fortunately, for anyone wanting to see more of the Peacock family, there is a comic series running titled ‘The X-Files: Season 11’ which does feature a return by the family as Mulder encounters them during his time as fugitive on the road. Check out the post with the cover design below:
