In the chilling new trailer for ‘Z for Zachariah,’ we get our first glimpse into the post-apocalyptic world of the adaption of Robert C. O’Brien’s 1974 novel, where a nuclear holocaust has left a lone woman, played by Margot Robbie (‘Focus,’ ‘Suicide Squad‘) seemingly the last human alive on earth. She finds herself alone in a fertile valley teeming with life that has somehow survived the nuclear fallout. Soon enough, she is found by a second survivor, played by  (‘Serenity’), a scientist going crazy from radiation exposure as well as his own quest to find another living human being. Naturally, Margot’s character initially distrusts the man, but as time passes the two manage to put aside their suspicions and become friends, eventually forming a relationship. Then a third man enters the valley, played by Chris Pine (‘Star Trek’), and loyalties are put to the test, as all struggle to survive in the post-apocalyptic world.

The trailer shows off the tone of the film, with tensions and fears running rampant as the 3 struggle to survive and find some semblance of normalcy, as well as the loneliness and depression of the three last people on the planet. With all the apocalyptic films made of late, the film is definitely going to attract moviegoers currently grooving with that idea, though clearly this will be more artsy than say ‘San Andreas.’

Look for the film to open on August 21st, and make sure you check out the trailer underneath the synopsis below!

“In the wake of a nuclear war, a young woman survives on her own, fearing she may actually be the proverbial last woman on earth, until she discovers the most astonishing sight of her life: another human being. A distraught scientist, he’s nearly been driven mad by radiation exposure and his desperate search for others. A fragile, imperative strand of trust connects them. But when a stranger enters the valley, their precarious bond begins to unravel.”
