Just hours after the finale of ‘Arrow,’ the CW has released the first cast photo and trailer for the newest spinoff to their hit series, ‘Legends of Tomorrow.’

We knew the ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ team would consist of Ray Palmer/The Atom (Brandon Routh), Dr. Martin Stein/half of the superhero Firestorm (Victor Garber), Leonard Snart/Captain Cold, (Wentworth Miller), Mick Rory/Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell) and Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee). Now from the trailer, we know a little more about each character and a final confirmation on who Caity Lotz is playing! Yes, she’s back as the Canary, but not the one that we’ve come to know from ‘Arrow.’ Leading this ragtag team is time traveler Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill).

Take a look below:

When heroes alone are not enough… the world needs legends. Having seen the future, one he will desperately try to prevent from happening, time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter is tasked with assembling a disparate group of both heroes and villains to confront an unstoppable threat — one in which not only is the planet at stake, but all of time itself. Can this ragtag team defeat an immortal threat unlike anything they have ever known?

From the looks of the footage, it would seem that the Lazarus Pit has been working overtime. Only just recently it was used to revive someone close to the ‘Arrow’ team, now it has been revealed that Sarah Lance was resurrected with the same waters. This time, however, she is no longer the Black Canary but the White Canary! Anyone familiar with the Lazarus Pit knows that one of the consequences of using the water’s powers is that it brings out the dark side of the person so it will be interesting to see how coming back from the dead will affect Sarah. In the comics, the White Canary was a villain for the Birds of Prey, but fans will have to see how this Canary will sing in the series.

Curiously, there is one team member absent from the cast photo and that is Jay Jackson (played by Fraz Drameh). His character is supposed to be a new one who is “a former high school athlete, whose pro [sports] career was derailed by injury. Now making ends meets as an auto mechanic, Jay will come to have a surprising affiliation to the S.T.A.R. Labs crew.” Does this mean we’ll meet him during next week’s ‘The Flash’ finale with the rest of the ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ team?

Also exciting is the first look at Darvill as Rip Hunter. As a big ‘Doctor Who’ fan, I couldn’t help but hope that the line that he was a “member of the Time Masters” could be replaced with “member of the Time Lords.” Since we already know the executive producers of the series are big Whovians, don’t be surprised if there will be lots of Easter egg nods to the original time traveler with a blue box.

When it comes to television shows, DC (or more specifically the CW branch) has accomplished on the small screen what Marvel has been doing cinematically when it comes to shared universes. Crossover episodes between ‘The Flash’ and ‘Arrow’ have been proven so successful in the ratings that the network has decided to keep it as an annual event. Now add in this third show, and it looks like next season will be a great year for DC fans and the CW network! Now if we can only confirm a ‘Supergirl’ crossover and get ‘Constantine’ in the mix, right?
