Director Bryan Singer is currently deep into casting ‘X-Men: Apocalypse.’ Similar to the process of last year’s ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past,’ it seems like the filmmaker behind a few of the best installments of Fox’s mutant Marvel movies reveals a new character or some other interesting from the production every few days. Recently, we learned that Ben Hardy would indeed be playing Angel and that Lana Condor landed the role of Jubilee. The pair join a number of new faces portraying iconic X-Men alongside Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Alexandra Shipp as Storm, and Sophie Turner as Jean Grey. However, we now know that another fan favorite character will be appearing in the upcoming film as well thanks to a “geek goddess”.

According to Singer’s Instagram, former ‘Attack of the Show!’ host and ‘The Daily Show’ alum Olivia Munn will star as Betsy Braddock in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’. If that name doesn’t sound familiar, you would probably know her better by her codename Psylocke. You can see the announcement in the post below:

Since her days on G4 and Comedy Central, Munn has been doing a lot more film and television projects that saw her take roles in ‘Magic Mike,’ ‘Iron Man 2,’ and ‘New Girl.’ Although, it was her part in HBO’s ‘The Newsroom’ as Sloan Sabbith that really made a wider audience really notice her. But now, by taking the role of Psylocke, it appears that we’ll be seeing her around the Comic Con crowds once again.

Though I’m sure many are ecstatic about the casting of Munn as Psylocke, the question remains regarding which version of the character will we be seeing. The character has a long, storied history in Marvel Comics lore that includes being Captain Britain’s twin sister, having telepathic powers, and somehow being merged both mentally and physically with a deadly Japanese assassin named Kwannon. Based on the casting of Munn, Braddock will probably already be in her Asian assassin stage of her history, but I’m curious to see which mutant abilities like her carry over into this version of the character.

What do you think of Olivia Munn joining the cast of ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ as Psylocke? What powers do you think this iteration of the character will utilize? Share your thoughts and theories in the comment section.

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ opens in theaters on May 27, 2016.
