So before we get into it, here’s the TV Line scoop from the ‘Arrow’ spoiler folks:

“The show’s Season 3 finale will introduce a major, formidable, fierce new foe for Oliver, and his reign of terror will continue well into Season 4. The mysterious character is being referred to internally as “Damian Dark,” which got Matt Mitovich and I (but mostly MM) pulling up and skimming the Wiki page of one Damian Wayne. Get it? Damian Wayne. Son of the Dark Knight. They’d probably have to tweak the Bruce Wayne connection, but it’s a plausible theory, no?”

Now to start, this definitely goes against what we’ve heard about the producers of ‘Arrow’ being told that anyone from the Batman family is off-limits, which would most definitely include his son. For those not in the know, Damien Wayne is the child of Bruce Wayne (Batman) and Talia Al Ghul (older sister of Nyssa Al Ghul and daughter of Ras Al Ghul, both of whose presences have been felt heavily on ‘Arrow’ this season.) When Batman learned of the existence of his son, he took him in, and eventually Damien became the new Robin, replacing Tim Drake.

But why would they go in this direction for ‘Arrow’? How could they possibly get away with using Batman’s son? Well it’s important to note that the show is referring to the new character as ‘Damien Dark,’ which does not confirm that he is actually Damien Wayne. They could be using the euphemism to describe a character who will be similar to Damien Wayne, only darker. Maybe a character who is the son of Oliver Queen, and is taken by the Al Ghul family once Oliver turns down the offer to be the next Ras Al Ghul (my own theory of course). And it is backed up by evidence from the season, including the reappearance of the woman who we all knew was the mother to Oliver’s illegitimate child when Oliver visited ‘The Flash’ in Central City.

No matter what, dangling this bit of story in front of the internet is a great way to keep fans on their toes leading up to the final stretch of episodes leading into the Season 3 finale. I am very much looking forward to the return of ‘Arrow’ on March 18, to see how they set everything up for what I’m sure will be another epic finale.
