Green Lantern‘ was really a pretty awful comic book adaptation and Ryan Reynolds is finally eager to talk about why he thinks that is. With everyone so excited about Reynolds in the upcoming ‘Deadpool‘ movie, we’ve all been trying to forget the last cinematic take on Hal Jordan. Well, the actor not only wants to set the record straight on why the movie flopped but also why ‘Deadpool’ won’t be suffering from the same fate.

Honestly the biggest issue with the film for Reyonolds boiled down to the writing and story:

“Well, script. When we shot Green Lantern, nobody auditioning for the role of Green Lantern was given the opportunity to read the script, because the script didn’t exist. I’m not complaining about it — it was an opportunity of a lifetime, and if I were to go back and retrace my steps, I would probably do everything the exact same way. But script, that’s what’s different on this one.”

We all know how badly that specific script ended up being. For a movie that was so full of potential and could have properly helped launch the DC Cinematic Universe they really let the creativity dip on that one.

We already know that Reynolds has said that ‘Deadpool will be the movie he and the filmmakers want to make but how does he know that? Well, this time around Reynolds has seen the script:

“We’ve had a script for three years. The script got leaked, and people even loved that. That says a lot — if you can create a script around a comic-book character that is directly within the canon of the character and be embraced. That’s a huge step in the right direction. I’ve since learned that a lot of superhero movies don’t really have a fully functioning draft of the screenplay ready until they’re already well into shooting.”

I really have to hand it to Reynolds on giving so much of the power in the hands of the writer. Usually you see the director, the studio, or a set of producers being named when it comes to the creative control of a movie. I’m liking what Reynolds is selling here.

‘Deadpool’ will be delivering a chimichanga to a theater near you on February 12, 2016
