Back in 2013, writer and director Joss Whedon revealed that Phil Coulson probably wouldn’t appear in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ because at the time he already had “too much movie.” With everything that Earth’s Mightiest Heroes are set to endure while facing the raging robot played by James Spader, that’s quite understandable. Plus, we’ll be getting a crossover on Director Coulson’s turf when we see the fallout of Ultron’s attack on ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,’ the television end of Marvel Studios will still get to represent. However, a new rumor has surfaced saying that we might end up seeing the a few familiar faces from the small screen in the upcoming Phase Two film after all.

Earlier this week, Reddit user the_marvel_intern posted a good bit of insider information about the inner workings of Marvel Studios and their upcoming plans because he or she was laid off. Though most of the post had to do with who the company is considering to direct ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, the user did mention that “In ‘Age of Ultron’, cast of ‘Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ show up”. Ming-Na Wen’s Melinda May, Chloe Bennet’s Skye/Daisy Johnson, and Clark Gregg’s Phil Coulson are specifically named as characters that will be appearing, but with the user includes “etc.”, so it’s implied that more members of the team like Agents Fitz, Simmons, Morse, or Koenig could pop up as well. (I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that Agent Triplett is probably out of the running for sure though.)

Obviously, this should clearly be marked as an unverified rumor at this point, but it’s not entirely far fetched that we could get an ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ cameo in ‘Age of Ultron’. After all, with a crossover on the ABC show on it’s way, it wouldn’t hurt to set it up a little bit. Sure, it won’t be S.H.I.E.L.D. falling apart again like in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, but maybe we could see the team fighting off some Iron Legion drones separate from the Avengers in the film. That way we don’t have to go through the hassle of explaining to Iron Man, Captain America, and everyone else that Coulson is actually still alive, which is something that Whedon had worried about to begin with.

While the source may seem a bit sketchy, what do you think about the cast of ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ appearing in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’? Do you think that they could at least have a small cameo appearance in the movie? Share your thoughts and theories in the comment section.
