There is BIG news coming out of the House of Ideas today as Marvel has announced not one, not two, but 4 new series to be released! That’s right folks, Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist are all set to get their own 13 episode Netflix Original Series. I can’t even begin to express how excited I am right now about the total lack of a social life I’m going to be entering when these are released in 2015!

That’s not all! Once all of these 13-series runs are completed, there will be a mini-series where all four are brought together to form ‘The Defenders’ which “reimagines a dream team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters.” This kind of introduction worked great for ‘The Avengers’ by giving ‘Iron Man’, ‘Thor‘, and ‘Captain America: The First Avenger’ introductions in previous films. Why mess with a working formula? The focus of all of these characters will end up being in Hell’s Kitchen, New York and I wouldn’t be surprised if it ended up having crossovers with the upcoming Marvel movies and ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ as well!

All of these choices make sense to one degree or another. While there have been no previous mentioned of an ‘Iron Fist’ appearance, he has been one of ‘The Defenders’ in the comics and long time fan favorite. With the rights to Daredevil back at Marvel studios, it was only a matter of time before they found a way to bring him back into the spotlight. He is another fan favorite that was done a horrible injustice in his first film that featured Ben Affleck in the starring role. Marvel would clearly want to redeam the character. When Iron Fist is involved, it’s an easy jump to have Luke Cage in the mix as they have teamed up in almost every iteration. Besides, movie rumors for Mr. Cage having his own film have been swirling since almost the launch of Phase 1. For Jessica Jones, there has long been talk of an ‘AKA Jessica Jones‘ television show and this might be how they finally end up using it, with a few re-writes to better fit in for it’s culmination in ‘The Defenders’ I’m sure.

WOW!  It’s been known that Marvel was pushing their cinematic experience, but this is putting it into a whole new level! Hopefully, there won’t be a level of over saturation because I plan on watching all of these and hope they are nothing but a success! No word yet on actors, directors, or writers that are lined up for the various characters, though I wouldn’t be surprised if we’ll be finding out some of these details over the next couple of months!

Are you excited about this news? Are you worried Marvel is taking on too much for their own good? Sound off below true believers!
