For the record, the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Marvel Comics 616 Universe are two separate entities. However, each world is inspired by one another and we get some unique examples of what big corporate types might call brand synergy. For example, Mark Waid’s recently released ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ #1 features characters first introduced in the MCU such as Agents Coulson, May, Fitz, and Simmons. Now, we have another case of this as ‘Howard The Duck’ writer Chip Zdarsky and artist Joe Quinones will explore how the foul fowl found himself in the clutches of the Collector, which was previously seen in the post-credits scene of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the second issue of the brand new comic series written by acclaimed ‘Sex Criminals’ artist Zdarsky will see Howard team up with the Guardians for his first big case in April. The sequel/prequel bit comes in when the heroes (or “heroes” depending on who we’re talking about) cross paths with the character played by Benicio Del Toro in James Gunn’s surprise summer blockbuster hit and end up in his museum. Here’s the official solicitation text for the issue, followed by the covers by Quinones (which fittingly features duck faces that will inevitably make Kelly Sue DeConnick proud), Zdarsky, and Mahmud Asrar:

“Howard’s first big case has taken him across the universe and landed him in the clutches of THE COLLECTOR! • But he’s not alone as the very popular ROCKET RACCOON is a prisoner as well! Have you ever seen a comic book sequel to a post-credits scene in a movie? Well, you will now! Join comics legend STAN LEE in reading this issue (I’m assuming he’ll read it. Hi Stan!)!”
