Having just gotten outstanding reviews in ‘Birdman‘ it sounds as if Michael Keaton‘s (‘Batman’,’Beetlejuice’) next acting stint could very well be in ‘King Kong: Skull Island.’ While Oscar buzz for his performance is nice, it looks as if Legendary Pictures is in talks with Keaton to be the third actor cast for the film. Keaton would be joining Tom Hiddleston (‘Thor: The Dark World,’ ‘Crimson Peak’) and J.K. Simmons (‘Spider-Man’,’Terminator: Genisys‘) for this Jordan Vogt-Roberts (‘The Kings of Summer,”Death Valley’) directed film.

With the Peter Jackson directed ‘King Kong’ being a beautifully filmed movie that had mixed reviews for the plot, it will be interesting to see how this new adventure to the island that gave us King Kong ends up going. While I hope they will mimic the visuals on screen from the first film, the acting potential in this one is already a step above the last film and I’d love to see the plot allow for a true use of their talents.

Early news of the film has this set to be a prequel so that would place King Kong alive and well in his natural habitat along with all of the other dinosaurs and critters that live on the island. It also means that we’ll be given a period piece so no advanced technology for the crew to be able to take with them. Rumors have this set to be the potential start of either a series or shared monster universe though that last part seems a little iffy if Jackson’s work is going to end up considered canon.
