For those of us looking forward to some of Fox’s upcoming films, we just got release dates for 4 of the bigger ones that will be hitting theaters in 2016 and 2017. Now we know when we’ll be able to check out ‘Gambit,’ ‘Fantastic Four,’ ‘Planet Of The Apes 3,’ and ‘Assassin’s Creed‘! While not all of the release dates of blockbusters that Fox has in the works, these are four of their larger films on the list.
First up we’ll be able to check out Fox’s latest solo mutant adventure with the release of ‘Gambit’ on October 7th, 2016 which stars Channing Tatum as the Cajun thief and wooer of women. I imagine we’ll be seeing a focus on his skills of robbing people blind with a bit of trouble landing on his lap and where he uses his powers to help him get out of it. With multiple stand alone films supposedly in the works, only ‘Gambit’ and ‘Deadpool‘ seem to be actively cast and be moving forward . Tatum himself actually broke this news on Twitter:
How do you say October 7, 2016 in Cajun?

Next on the list will be the video game adaptation of ‘Assassin’s Creed’ which has fan favorite Michael Fassbender attached. That film will be taking over the big screen on December 21st, 2016. The game is one of many of the recent franchises that actually have enough of a story which could make a big screen translation without altering the plot that much. We’ll watch the rise of an assassin that may mix in time travel and revenge depending on which game’s story line they end up adapting. The real question is will it be one of the few films that actually get a video game world right or one of the long line of game adaptations flops that we’ve seen over the years? I’m hoping with the talent attached and the rich world that they can borrow from that we have a hit on our hands.
Super heroes are where its at so if Fox doesn’t butcher Marvel’s first family, we’ll see a release of ‘The Fantastic Four ‘ coming out on June 2nd 2017. This film was moved up from its original planned July 14th release. Will the studio be able to mimic the success of their ‘X-Men’ franchise and be able to develop a larger shared comic universe or are they doomed to fail once more with this group of heroes?
Finally moving to the July 14th, 2017 release date that was just abandoned by ‘The Fantastic Four,’ we’ll have the third ‘Planet of the Apes’ film! With how much ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes‘ and ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes‘ made me fall back in love with the franchise, this was great news for me! Actually I’m a little miffed on this one as the film was initially set to be released on July 29th, 2016 so we’ll have to wait a bit longer than originally planned. I know these films are either love them or hate them, but for those of you who have enjoyed them like me, this is something to look forward to. Offhand, my money is on ‘War of the Planet of the Apes’ for the film’s title.
Which of the above movies are you most looking forward to seeing on the big screen? Share your thoughts below!
