Nintendo has finally revealed that classic Nintendo 64 game ‘Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask’ will finally be getting the long-awaited remake treatment on the 3DS.

Announced via Nintendo Direct, ‘Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mark 3D’ will be a remake of the Nintendo 64 game of the same name. Outside of the game’s announcement and a trailer, there were no announcements about the title in terms of new features and bonuses. However, Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo had only this to say about the game and it’s darker tone in the ‘Legend of Zelda’ series.

“This dark departure from the Zelda formula must have left some intense and scary memories in player’s minds,” said Iwata. “As we worked on the remade version, we set out to maintain the original level of challenge while keeping the game accessible for anyone.”

Questions regarding a 3DS remake of ‘Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask’ have been on the minds of fans ever since the remake ‘Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D’ came out on the Nintendo 3DS back in 2011.

‘Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask’ was originally released for the Nintendo 64 on October 26, 2000. It is a direct sequel to ‘Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’ and puts players in the shoes of Link again as he searches for his departed fairy, Navi. His adventures take him to Termina, a land that is threatened by the Skull Kid, a creature who wears the stolen Majora’s Mask, a powerful ancient artifact that he uses to cause the moon fall onto the land in a matter of three days. As Link, the player must find a way to prevent this from happening by traveling back in time to the beginning of those three days to stop the moon and save Termina from destruction.

The game is the first and only one in the long running series to feature time-based gameplay that revolves solely around repeating a three day cycle. It was also very much acclaimed by critics and fans alike during the time of its release.

‘Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mark 3D’ will release on Nintendo 3DS sometime in Spring 2015.
