Hello toy collectors, and welcome to an all new edition of Toy News Tuesday! Just in case you‘re new, Toy News Tuesday is the one weekly column right here on ScienceFiction.com where we seek out all of the news you need to know about any announcements and cool happenings in the toy industry and put them all in one easy to find place for you! If you’re a Funko fan, this week is certainly for you! Even if you’re not, there’s a little something for everybody in the toy news for the week of September 9th, 2014!
NECA’s Otachi Rising
With the huge success of their ongoing ‘Pacific Rim’ toyline, it’s no surprise to see NECA releasing yet another massive Kaiju figure to do battle with all of the Jaeger figures in your toy collection! The all new 7’ tall Otachi Kaiju figure reaches a WHOPPING 18” in length, sports 30 points of articulation, and is fully in scale with all of the previously released Jaeger figures! Otachi is considered one of the deadliest Kaiju seen in the massive blockbuster hit ‘Pacific Rim’, and it’s actually kind of surprising that it took NECA so long to release him, but from the looks of this figure, the phrase “all good things are worth waiting for” certainly comes to mind. The full release from NECA is below:
Introducing the Pacific Rim Otachi 7” Ultra Deluxe Action Figure!
Our newest boxed, ultra-deluxe kaiju action figure is the hotly anticipated, fan-demanded #Otachi. One of the most deadly Category IV kaiju, Otachi is capable of flight, and can spit an acid corrosive enough to melt everything from office buildings to the armor of a Jaeger!
This massive, extra-detailed figure measures nearly 18″ long and almost 7″ tall, and is to scale with our #Jaeger action figures. It features over 30 points of articulation, including a fully articulated tail, plus an interchangeable tongue that can be removed to equip a sculpted “acid spitting” effect.
Funko POP! Mania
New Asgardians
Last year’s ‘Thor: The Dark World’ wowed audiences with a deeper look at the world of Asgard in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Funko released a small wave of POP! Vinyl figures based on the film, but with a fairly limited selection of characters compared to how many major stars were in the film! The first wave of ‘Dark World’ figures included Thor, Loki, and a Dark Elf. That’s about it. Luckily, Funko is looking to rectify that with an all new second wave of POP! Vinyl figures based on the film! This time around we’re getting Odin, Heimdall, Lady Sif, and an all new ‘helmeted’ verison of fan favorite Loki! These are set to hit shelves this month!
X-Men Assemble!
Keeping the Marvel ball rolling right along, Funko also revealed a slew of new Classic X-Men POP! Vinyl figures that will be coming our way soon! We’ve already got a few fan favorites like Beast and Wolverine, but now we can look forward to seeing classic 90’s styled versions of Cyclops, Professor X, Magneto, Mystique, Colossus, and Storm! These are set to hit shelves in November!
POP!-ping Out Of Arkham
Funko is taking a trip to Batman’s iconic madhouse with a new wave of POP! Vinyl figures based on character designs seen in the ‘Arkham Asylum’ video game series! This new wave of POP! Vinyl figures is set to include The Joker, harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Killer Croc, and of course the Dark Knight himself, Batman!
Funko Exclusives Are A Hot Topic
On top of all of the new waves of POP! Vinyle figures coming our way, we’ve also got a few individual exclusive figures coming to Hot Topic stores in the immediate future based off of some of your favorite franchises!
‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ fans can look forward to an all new evil ‘Wishverse’ version of fan favorite Willow!
Fans of ‘American Horror Story’ can start hunting now for their bloody variant of Fiona Goode and the ‘eyeless’ version of Cordelia Foxx!
And finally, ‘Supernatural’ fans can start praying that they find this awesome new ‘winged’ Castiel variant figure! The original Castiel POP! Vinyl was already a Hot Topic Exclusive, so now that there is a secondary chase version, expect it to be near impossible to find.
