The Season Four DVD/BluRay for ‘The Walking Dead’ hits stores on Tuesday, August 26th and as with the previous releases, will be chock full of extras. While we do have one to share before the set is released tomorrow, be warned as it deals with some Season 4 spoilers!

Perhaps the most defining event of the entire season, even more so than the fall of the Prison, was the death of Hershel.  Not only was he the father of Beth and Maggie, but the moral center of the group and and a mentor to them all.

In  this bonus feature, the cast and crew discuss the death and the impact it has on Rick, specifically.  Showrunner Scott M. Gimple, as well as producers Gale Anne Hurd and Denise Huth plus stars Andrew Lincoln (Rick) and David Morrissey (The Governor) open up about the infamous event.

Gimple compares Hershel’s death to “the death of civilization.”

Morrissey describes the tense scene as being “a very calm ultimatum.”

“As soon as it happens,” explains Lincoln, “there is no way back.”

“There is no negotioation,” adds Hurd, “”He has to become that violent leader again.”

This is just one featurette included on the DVD/BluRay release, which goes behind-the-scenes of the making of the show.  (If you watch ‘The Talking Dead’ you know they are constantly filming such shorts.)  Also included will be several deleted scenes (including alternate “dirty” version of the last episode “A”) and extended versions of the episodes ‘After’ and ‘The Grove.’  (For a look at one of the added scenes from ‘The Grove’ click here.)  And of course, expect commentaries from the creators and actors.
