Today we’ve got some of the first shots from the ‘Fantastic Four‘ location set to share with you. While it doesn’t have the cast making an appearance, it does show off the home of the Fantastic Four in the form of The Baxter Building. What is shown here, however, is the Baxter Institute which to those familiar with the Ultimate Fantastic Four universe will recognize as the building’s name change.
With the Ultimate Marvel universe being the basis of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, maybe this is what actress Kate Mara (‘American Horror Story‘, ’Iron Man 2‘) said that this will be “a very grounded version of a superhero film.” That might make more sense than the movie not having the sci-fi take that it should have.
That is just speculation but we’ll see how it plays out.
The film itself is being shot in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, though from these shots you would be hard pressed to not feel as if you were seeing a movie being done in New York City. Not just the look of the buildings reflected this, but there were NYC taxis, buses, payphones, and a hot dog stand. They really did a good job at pulling off the initial look. While that shouldn’t be too surprising as that is what any set is for, it’s just fun to see it being done in Louisiana.
With the ‘Baxter Institute’ hinting at a base of the heroes set in the Ultimate Universe, I am eager to see it play out on screen. The plan has worked well for Marvel’s Cinematic Universe and might for Fox as well. Of course that depends how far they are willing to go with it as Reed Richards doesn’t necessarily end up the likable scientist that he is in the standard comic universe.
What do you think of the early pictures? Do you think that a ‘Fantastic Four’ set closer along the lines that might be hinted at above could work? Share your thoughts below true believers!
‘Fantastic Four’ starring Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, and Jamie Bell hits theaters on June 19, 2015.
