Many would reference a colorful film starring Bill Murray to describe the plotline of Tom Cruise’s new film; ‘Edge of Tomorrow,’ but being a total sci-fi geek, and having recently re-watched ‘Stargate SG-1,’ I find myself comparing the resetting of Cruise’s character to the episode ‘Window of Opportunity’ in which Jack O’Neil and Teal’c find themselves trapped in a time loop… with some hilarious results.
With that said, we have three brand new clips from the film ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ that delves into the tech of the “Exo-Suit” that Cruise’s character wears. In an alien vs. human war that we apparently lose, Lt. Col. Bill Cage is fitted with a high tech exoskeleton suit with a strange alien power to time-loop which gives him the the chance (or many, many chances) to turn the tide.
These three clips with enhanced trailer content focus on different areas of the film, the most interesting of which focuses on the super human abilities the Exo-Suit infuses the host with. I realize Cruise wants his face exposed for the film, but for crying out loud man, put on a damned helmet already- you look like an idiot just waiting to have his grape popped by any number of wartime incidents.
The clips also give us a behind the scenes look at the development of the film, the R & D behind the Exo-Suit, and more of the “Groundhog Day” concept ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ is based around.
So what do you think? Is ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ something you’ll be seeing in the theaters?
Lt. Col. Bill Cage is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously demoted and then dropped into combat. Cage is killed within minutes, managing to take an alpha alien down with him. But he awakens back at the beginning of the same day and is forced to fight and die again…and again – as physical contact with the alien has thrown him into a time loop.
‘Edge of Tomorrow’ starring Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt, Bill Paxton, and Jeremy Piven hits theaters on June 6, 2014.
