Normally, we’d have to wait for the movie to arrive on BluRay or DVD before we get commentary from the director and stars, but that isn’t the case with ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’! The movie won’t even hit theaters until May 2nd, 2014 but the first trailer has just arrived, and director Marc Webb and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Dane DeHaan and Jamie Foxx are all chiming in on the clip, breaking it down and revealing inside information.
Check it out for yourself below:
There’s a lot of info revealed including longer shots of The Rhino and Green Goblin, but perhaps the biggest reveal is the shot that depicts Doctor Octopus’ tentacles and The Vulture’s wings inside of Oscorp, further setting up the possibility of The Sinister Six popping up in the franchise. While Doc Ock menaced Tobey Maguire’s take on Spidey in the previous trilogy, The Vulture would be a brand new addition to the cinematic world.
But that’s for the future. As for this movie, Marc Webb states, “The big prominent villain in this movie is Electro, but there’s many adversaries that Spider-Man is going to have to face. The consistent thing about them all is the evil empire known as OsCorp… or what’s becoming this evil empire. I think that’s something that may inform some people’s viewing of the trailer.”
Dane DeHaan also elaborates on Harry Osborn’s relationship with Peter Parker, stating that they were childhood friends until Harry went off to private school and he reveals that Oscorp has been keeping Peter under surveillance. (Could this mean that Peter’s secret identity isn’t so secret?)
Things seem to be looking up for Emma Stone’s character Gwen Stacy, who is looking to head off to Oxford. But Webb states “One of the difficult things that Spider-Man and Peter Parker have to face is that the people he loves are often put into danger. And that’s one of the brutal, difficult ways that Spider-Man’s adversaries can attack Spider-Man, by attacking the ones he loves. So she may be in danger from time to time, we’ll see.”
