We previously reported that Fox had ordered a show called ‘Gotham’ straight-to-series, bypassing the pilot process. The show would focus on Lt. James Gordon of the Gotham City police department as he solves crimes in the twisted, corrupt metropolis and, possibly, his ascension to eventually become commissioner, should the show last that long.
Now comes word that the first episode will have Gordon working to solve a famous double homicide. Hmmm, Gotham City, pre-Batman? Double homicide? Will Gordon actually be working to solve the killing of Thomas and Martha Wayne?! And if so, does that mean that a young Bruce Wayne will make an appearance? It would certainly only make sense!
The show is being executive produced by Bruno Heller, creator of ‘The Mentalist’, who is also writing the script for the first episode. The series “will focus on the villains that made the fictional city famous.” But setting the show in the past, it’s a bit odd that these menaces will emerge years before Batman ever appears.
There’s still very little information to go on at this point. Hopefully they will work in as many elements from the comics as they can. I’d love to see a baby Barbara Gordon, and maybe have Gordon working with Harvey Bullock and Renee Montoya. (If she weren’t already on ‘Glee’ I think Naya Rivera would make a great Montoya!)
As for who should play the future Commissioner? I believe ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ is ending soon. (I may be wrong there.) If so, I think Kevin McKidd (Dr. Owen Hunt) would do great in the role! (Coincidentally, he voiced Thomas Wayne in ‘Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox’!)
What do you hope to see? Which famous villains should Gordon hunt down? What supporting characters should appear on the show? Sound off in the comments below!
