We’re just days away from possibly the most anticipated episode of ‘Arrow’ yet, ‘The Scientist’ which will bring police forensic scientist Barry Allen from Central City to Starling City and possibly result in a spin-off series featuring DC Comics’ Scarlet Speedster The Flash. We previously presented to you the trailer for his debut. Now there’s even more!
Producer Andrew Kreisberg gives some insight into how the ‘Arrow’ team is approaching the fleet-footed hero and describes how they weren’t looking for “another big, square-jawed hero the same way Stephen [Amell] is.” Instead, Gustin’s Barry Allen seems humble, a little nervous and sweetly goofy. And there certainly seems to be something there between him and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards).
Anyway, check out the clip for yourself below (Pay extra attention to the shot of Barry getting out of the helicopter):
Excited?
As I said, if you pay close attention to the shot of him getting out of the helicopter, you can see he holds above his head a copy of ‘Science Showcase’ a nod to The Flash’s first appearance in ‘Showcase’ #4. It’s nearly impossible to read, but the headline of the journal is “S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Collider: Is It Safe?” The S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator has popped up repeatedly this season on the show, as it has drawn protest over safety concerns. Could this be a hint as to how Barry gains his super speed abilities? (That would be a bit more modern than getting struck by lightning and doused with chemicals at the same time.)
Barry Allen appears in this week’s episode ‘The Scientist’ and next week’s which is entitled ‘Three Ghosts’ which introduces Cyrus Gold (Graham Shiels), a character in the comics who becomes the hulking swamp zombie Solomon Grundy.
It seems most fans are delighted at the thought of another famous DC hero joining the TV family. Are you? Who else would you like to see on the small screen?
