Following ‘Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox’ the DC animated universe is headed into The New 52 territory with ‘Justice League: War’ which adapts the opening storyline from the current ‘Justice League’ comic book series, which gathered the world’s greatest heroes to oppose the ultimate evil, Darkseid.  Liberties have been taken, however, as Aquaman is absent and Shazam is substituted in his place.

Slowly, Warner Brothers has been releasing images from the film, including one of a redesigned Wonder Woman.  Now we get an image of Superman, along with Batman and Green Lantern.  The shot is only of his upper half, but it’s probably safe to assume he will look the same as he does in the current comics, meaning no red trunks.  It’s sort of odd, though, that his S shield logo appears so flat, compared to Batman’s chest emblem, which is more 3D.  It does seem that the look of the film is veering toward an anime style.

Superman will be voiced by ‘Firefly’ alum Alan Tudyk.  He will be joined by Jason O’Mara as Batman, Michelle Monaghan as Wonder Woman, Christopher Gorham as The Flash, Justin Kirk as Green Lantern, Shemar Moore as Cyborg, Sean Astin as Shazam, and Steve Blum as Darkseid.  Jay Olivia is directing the film, written by Heath Corston based on the original comic book by Geoff Johns, illustrated by Jim Lee.

Here are two additional images, first of Shazam:

And secondly, major bad guy Darkseid:

Though the movie won’t be released until next year (exact date to be determined), Warner Brothers will be promoting it this weekend at New York Comic-Con.  Jay Olivia, voice director Andrea Romano and producer James Tucker will be on hand to sign autographs and some surprise guests are expected.

Are you excited to see The New 52 coming to animation?  What would you like to see DC produce next?
