The supporting women of the ‘Twilight’ Saga aren’t doing too bad for themselves. First there was the ditzy best friend Jessica, played by Anna Kendrick, who would go on to gain critical acclaim for her role opposite George Clooney in ‘Up in the Air’ and carry the plot and tune in ‘Pitch Perfect.’ Now we have the beautiful Christian Serratos, who played Bella’s shy friend Angela in ‘Twilight,’ who has just been cast as principal cast member Rosita Espinosa on AMC’s ‘The Walking Dead.’
And although it has yet to be announced, unless showrunner Scott Gimple plans to stray from the comic plot, the casting of Eugene and (pause for fanboy squealing) Abraham is not long to follow.
DFree / Shutterstock.comGetting casting news this early could be a hint to comic book readers to the events of this season, or it could simply be producers planning ahead. News of Larry Gilliard Jr.’s joining the cast broke only five months ago, and I’m no Hollywood insider, but with the show still filming in Georgia and the series’ famous midseason hiatus which lasts for months, I would wager we see her before the fourth season is out.
You are now entering a moderate spoiler zone. I won’t go Full Spoiler. You never go Full Spoiler.
Rosita, Abraham, and Eugene bring with them my favorite plot arc in the entire series. While many people are excited for Abraham to join the Apocalypse Team, which will add another bro to support and maybe sometimes second-guess the Ricktatorship, I’m most excited about the plot that introduces the two groups and leads them to trust each other. I’ll be very interested to see how the groups intersect, because as you might have guessed from this late-casting news, these three aren’t from the ex-Woodbury crew.
Now whether I’m excited about this because of the hope and friendship these three characters will bring or because I’m evil and can’t wait to taste your ‘Red Wedding’-level tears, you’ll just have to wait and see.
‘The Walking Dead’ returns to AMC on October 13th.
