During the 20th Century Fox panel at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, the party really started when Bryan Singer’s ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ took the stage. The film had already had a huge presence at the con even before a large number of cast members were gathered in Hall H as the viral marketing including the first look at a Sentinel and the first look at characters such as Colossus, Bishop, and the pairs of Magnetos and Professor Xs. Now that the con is over, it’s back to business as usual and we’re left to piecing things together bit by bit instead of getting a bunch of stuff in a huge presentation.

The latest news provides us with an exact timeline of when Singer’s upcoming film takes place in relation to the other X-Men movies. Over the weekend, we got a piece of the puzzle during the post-credits scene for ‘The Wolverine’, and we learned earlier this year that the First Class team would be caught up with in the 70s, but the most recent print edition of Empire Magazine sheds some light on the whole time table that we’ll be dealing with once credits roll on the director’s return to the franchise.

According to Singer’s interview with the magazine, the audience will be catching up with Marvel’s merry mutants a decade after each proper ‘X-Men’ movie:

“It takes place about ten years, give or take, after ‘X-Men 3’, and in the past it takes place about ten years after ‘First Class’.”

Previously, Singer made it known that he was looking to deal with some faulty canon within Fox’s X-universe in his film, so despite ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ coming out seven years ago, hopefully those extra years will be enough to explain some of the crazy things that happened after that movie. It’ll also be interesting to see just how much of ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine’ he disregards, if he decides to mention it at all. Maybe he’ll just take Hugh Jackman and James Mangold’s approach and just ignore it.

What are your thoughts on this timeline? What do you think Bryan Singer will retcon with this new installment? Speculate away in the comments.
