In September, DC Comics will put the spotlight on their revolting rogues as they celebrate the second anniversary of the New 52 with ‘Forever Evil’, an event that sees the villains take over their heroic foes’ comic books. But a month later, the baddies will continue to be the talk of the town as a brand new documentary titled ‘Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics’ talking about the rich histories of some of the most well-known criminals in the world of comics will be released.

DC and WB will examine menacing maniacs such as the Joker, Lex Luthor, and Darkseid in this new documentary with the help of professionals from film, television, and movies like Geoff Johns, Jim Lee, and Guillermo Del Toro. Furthermore, it will be narrated by bad guy extraordinaire Christopher Lee, who has brought characters such as Dracula, the Mummy, Count Dooku, and Saruman to life.

After first hearing about the project three months ago, we now have the first trailer for the film which you can check it out below:

Some of these villains are more popular than some of the DC Universe’s greatest heroes. In fact, a lot of the times when new comic book movies come out featuring established heroes, the biggest question in development is who the villain will be because that choice often makes the film more or less interesting. Because of that, and more reasons that will probably be looked at in the documentary, it’s cool to see these adversaries and the fan culture surrounding them examined in this way.

With so many great DC villains out there, who do you hope for ‘Necessary Evil’ to showcase? Are there any particular Legion of Doom members that you don’t think get enough love? Share your picks in the comments below.

‘Necessary Evil: Super-Villains of DC Comics’ will be released on October 25, 2013,
