I, like most people, were annoyed when I heard that ‘The Hobbit’ was going to be split into three movies. Of course, after seeing the first film I remembered what Peter Jackson had done with ‘Lord of the Rings’ and all was well with the world once more. Each of the three films clearly will have their own unique focus, though ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ is the one I’m most looking forward to. I mean, hello, Smaug, dragon.
Being half way through the year means we’re only half way to the sequel. I don’t know about you but my want to see the next film has been growing. Thanks to Comic Book Movie taking some scans from the latest issue of Empire Magazine, there are finally some new images to wet your appetite when it comes to all things Hobbity and Elven.
Oh, and there’s a great shot that makes Peter Jackson look like a dwarf. Seriously… surrounded by actors in makeup as hobbits and dwarves combined with the pants he’s wearing? Peter Jackson completely looks like a dwarf and I couldn’t stop chuckling as I looked the image over.
Speaking of those who are happy to get a look at all things Elven, many of you will be happy to hear that these images also give another look at the lovely Evangeline Lilly who will be portraying the newly created elf for the movie – Tauriel. She looks like she’s going to be able to take on just about anything and it’ll be good to see a strong female in the series who actually does something on screen. Don’t worry ladies, there are a couple shots of Legolas (Orlando Bloom) to keep your hearts aflutter as well! (I can’t wait to see what they do with his archery skills in this one!)
With only a peak at Smaug in the first trailer for the film, I’m not too surprised that we didn’t get any shots of him here. I have a feeling they won’t give away too many snippets of the dragon until ramping up to the film’s release. He’s just too big of a character to show off everything right off the bat.
For those unfamiliar with what to expect from ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’, here is the official synopsis below:
The second in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien, “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug” continues the adventure of the title character Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he journeys with the Wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and thirteen Dwarves, led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor.
We’ll have some hi-rez images on the way for you to enjoy as soon as they arrive !
So until then, tell us if are you looking forward to the next chapter in Peter Jackson’s Hobbit filled opus?
‘The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug’ will open in theaters on December 11, 2013.
