It’s official. Warner Brothers has squashed any hope of a Kickstarter-style campaign spearheaded by SMGO.tv to drum up grass roots fan support to revive Young Justice: Invasion and Green Lantern: The Animated Series, two cartoon programs that struck an emotional chord with viewers. SMGO.tv was hoping to gather fan support in order to finance at least one more season of each show, in order to wrap up dangling story lines, but Warner Brothers has killed any hopes of resolution for Young Justice‘s Apokolips storyline or the return and redemption of Aya on Green Lantern. (Also, I have to point out that the comic book adaptations sold poorly and were cancelled, so the idea of resolving these stories in that format is also unlikely.)
SMGO.tv’s official statement read:
Hey all, I’ve been trying (all day) to come up with a slightly better way to say this, but I’m just going to give it to you straight. Warner said no – they don’t think we can reach our goals – do you believe that?
These two mature, intelligent shows were replaced by the extremely juvenile and scattered Teen Titans Go! and Beware the Batman, which has yet to premier. Smooth move. Teen Titans Go! is so immature and silly, I couldn’t even recap it for this site, because it was just a bunch of silly vignettes. There wasn’t really anything that resembled a plot. And I loved the old Teen Titans series, but this is only the silly asides strung together as this nonsensical mashup. Batman will feature a machine gun toting Alfred and Katana. We’ll see.
So, I guess we’ll just have to enjoy what we have. I honestly wish they’d never even included the Darkseid scene on YJ. And as far as Aya… sigh, my lovely, wonderful Aya… I will miss you, along with the truly noble Razer. These shows were incredible and the fan support only reinforces that. We, as viewers, were emotionally invested in these programs and the fact that an entire organization sprung up to try and save them speaks volumes. But sometimes what’s done is done and it appears that this is the case here. Young Justice and Green Lantern: TAS, I enjoyed your presence and will miss you. Teen Titans has already lost me. I’ll give Batman a shot, but… I already know it won’t measure up.
No articles I write generated as much feedback as those about these two shows. Please share your thoughts or memories about these shows below. Let’s try to avoid anger and simply share our mutual love. Let’s trust that the Team and the Justice League ultimately defeated Darkseid and that Hal and the crew recovered Aya and that she and Razer wound up together.
