Around these parts, Scarlett Johansson usually gets talked about in the context of Marvel movies because of her role as the Black Widow in ‘Iron Man 2’, ‘The Avengers’, and the upcoming ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’. However, it sounds as if she’ll be playing another superhero of sorts for French director Luc Besson, who’s certainly no stranger to strong female protagonists.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, ScarJo has signed on to star in Besson’s latest film titled ‘Lucy’. Though it doesn’t explicitly mention the word superhero, it sounds like something straight out of the pages of a comic book. The film will follow an unwilling drug mule that experiences a crazy transformation after the drugs enter her system and give her miraculous powers such as the ability to “absorb knowledge instantaneously, is able to move objects with her mind and can’t feel pain and other discomforts”.
The action filmmaker known for his work on ‘La Femme Nikita’, ‘Taken’, ‘The Transporter’, and ‘The Fifth Element’ will not only occupy the director’s chair, but he has also written the script and he will produce the film under his EuropaCorp banner with partner Christophe Lambert and veteran producer Lisa Ellzey.
By the sounds of it, Johansson is more of a superhero in ‘Lucy’ than she is in the Marvel Universe since Widow doesn’t really have any powers. Regardless, after the actress wraps on her current Marvel project alongside Chris Evans, Anthony Mackie, and company, she’s expected to report to set with Besson to continue her streak of ass-kicking action roles.
