Earlier this week, we learned that ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ began production and last week, we found out that the film would be shooting entirely in New York. We also got official word that villains Electro, played by Jamie Foxx, and Rhino, played by Paul Giamatti, would be featured in the film. With those rogues lined up to cause trouble, Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker is sure to have his hands full, but could another rather popular villain be making an appearance in the film as well?

Screen Rant shared the following picture from Marc Webb’s Twitter, where the director has been sharing various shots from the Spidey set. The picture looks to be a filing cabinet or a locker. Seemingly random, yes? Well, word around the rumor mill is that this locker is connected to the symbiotic super villain Venom. Check it out below:

But what could a locker featuring the number 14 have to do with Venom? Well, let’s start with the hashtag. #happybirthday could refer to Dane DeHaan, who’s birthday was on February 6th, which was less than an hour before the picture was taken. The director probably snapped the shot during a late night shoot with DeHaan on set. The ‘Chronicle’ star is set to play Harry Osborn in the film, and the character is more traditionally connected to the Green Goblin, but in some versions, like the new ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ cartoon on Disney XD, he takes on the symbiote to impress his father by one-upping Spider-Man.

Still, that doesn’t explain the locker. Well, in the ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ comic books, Peter and Eddie Brock find an experiment meant to cure cancer in a locker that belonged to Pete’s father at Oscorp. The parasitic concoction bonds with Peter first, making him a stronger Spider-Man, but after he rejects it, it bonds to Brock and the iconic foe is born.

It’s very possible that Webb, along with writers Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci, and Jeff Pinkner, borrowed from the various stories of Harry and Venom and adapted them to their needs. It’s also very possible that everyone is over-analyzing this. Either way, it’s interesting an interesting theory to speculate on.

What do you think about the latest rumors about ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’? Do you think Dane DeHaan’s Harry Osborn will come out of this movie as Venom and then spin off into the long-rumored film from ‘Chronicle’ director Josh Trank? Or is this just a random picture that fans are over-thinking? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
