While there’s no release date for Bong Joon-ho’s film ‘Snowpiercer’ currently on the calendar, that’s not going to stop anyone from promoting the director’s first English language film. Today the first movie poster was released revealing the gritty life of the lower class society that inhabits the train.

The film has been shrouded in mystery with minimal press which is surprising considering the big names starring in the film like John Hurt (‘Immortals,’ ‘Merlin’), Ed Harris (‘Apollo 13,’ ‘The Truman Show’ ‘Pollock’), Chris Evans (‘Captain America,’ ‘The Avengers’) and Octavia Spencer (‘The Help’).  While the concept art released a few weeks back showed a more grandiose set, the movie poster follows the tone of the first official image showing the despair and conditions of the lower class who live in squander as compared to those in the elite portion of the train. In the midst of all this seems to be John Hurt as he stands overlooking everyone.

‘Snowpiercer’ takes a post-apocalyptic look about class struggle and takes place after an Ice Age descends on Earth and the only inhabits are those who are on the super train Snowpiercer. Here’s the official synopsis:

‘Snowpiercer’ is set in a future where, after a failed experiment to stop global warming, an Ice Age kills off all life on the planet except for the inhabitants of the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around the globe and is powered by a sacred perpetual-motion engine. A class system evolves on the train but a revolution brews.

It’s expected that ‘Snowpiercer’ will make an appearance at the Cannes Film Festival but nothing has yet been confirmed. The Weinstein Company, which is in charge of the US distribution rights, have said they hope to have the film released this summer.

The movie looks like it has a lot of potential with its social commentary wrapped up in a sci-fi package so I’m anxious to see how Joon-ho deals with the subject, aren’t you?

While we’re waiting, check out the new movie poster below and let us know what you think!
